Began awkwardly, then bumped and lost ground. Near the 1000m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SOUTHERN SWING which shifted in when not fully clear. Jockey N Callow rider of SOUTHERN SWING was advised to show greater care when in similar circumstances.

When asked to comment on the performance apprentice K Wilson-Taylor stated that the gelding travelled well until near the 600m and when pressured from that point failed to respond, and was then eased down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting signs of cardiac arrythmia. Trainer L Hatch was advised that an ECG be performed and results furnished to Stewards prior to WILD MOON trialling to the satisfaction of Stewards before being eligible to start in a race again
