Began awkwardly. Near the 900m, when shifting out to improve, bumped with another runner and became unbalanced. On returning to scale, jockey E Chaves reported that the gelding travelled well until a point approaching the home turn, where when placed under pressure, immediately came under pressure, and failed to run on in the home straight. Trainer L Freedman was at a loss to explain the poor performance other than the gelding may have got its tongue over the bit and choked down during the event. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
