Raced keen whilst wide during early & mid stgs. Near 200m, Rdr, when attempting to use whip, hand was entangled in reins being placed at disadvantage until 100m, where dropped whip. When quest re tactics when over-racing 3 wide leaving 900m, whether had opportunity to allow horse to stride to take up a leading position closer to fence. Rdr explained pre-race, had anticipated inside runner showing speed & leading & mount to stride with horse. When this didn't occur, attempted to find cover but was unable to do so & caught wide. Agreed would have been better allowing horse to stride from 900m
