Approaching h/turn after initially considering shifting wider, elected to steer near rail to save ground & then in run to finish, disappointed at heels. Stew considered explanation, noting Rdr's inexperience & not riding often at track, determined Rdr erred allowing gelding to settle back when opportunity to ensure gelding kept contact with field approaching h/turn, affording more options to improve into race.
