Race 1 - LSA DEMOLITION BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 900m
STORM DREAMER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after returning from an extended spell. Reluctant to proceed to the barriers. Rider App S Wilcock reported the mare was slow to muster early speed and felt flat throughout, she added that the mare will benefit in fitness from this run after returning from an extended spell. Trainer W Baker advised the mare would now be leaving his stable, nonetheless, Mr. Baker was advised STORM DREAMER would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards for its pre-race behavior prior to racing again.
Race 2 - HORNICKS CYPRESS QTIS MAIDEN PLATE 1200m
The start of this race was delayed approximately 7 minutes when STYLISH ANGEL became fractious in the barriers dislodging its riding and becoming momentarily cast. Subsequently STYLISH ANGEL was declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 2:31pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on STYLISH ANGEL to be refunded in full, with the following deductions to apply:
1st NYTHE – 17c Win 18c Place
2nd MISHPAT – 17c Place
Trainer W Baker advised the mare would now be leaving his stable, nonetheless, Mr. Baker was advised STYLISH ANGEL would be required to officially trial to the satisfaction of Stewards for its barrier manners prior to racing again and would also require a Veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
Apprentice S Wilcox was examined by QAS officials and cleared to fulfill her remaining engagements. Apprentice Wilcox did report slight bruising to her right foot.
The start was further delayed when VILLICON and BARRYTHEBARBARIC who were in the stalls next to STYLISH ANGEL, were both unloaded from the barriers and underwent a veterinary inspection and were cleared to start.
SUDDEN STRIKE – Blundered on jumping as a result shifted out bumping heavily with BARRYTHEBARBARIC causing that runner to be taken wider bumping with VILLICON.
WILLBEKING – At the start was awkwardly placed on the heels of VILLICON and lost ground.
MISHPAT – Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
VILLICON – Bumped heavily on jumping.
BARRYTHEBARBARIC – Began awkwardly then bumped heavily with VILLICON causing that runner to shift out.
Race 3 - GRULKE CONCRETE BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1640m
LIP SIP SUK – Began awkwardly bumping SCOTLAND. Rider App I Jessop reported that she was instructed to lead the field and felt the gelding did too much work early to obtain the lead and felt this could have been detrimental to the gelding’s overall performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer J Taylor advised that he would discuss with connections the immediate racing future of the gelding.
SHOALWATER BAY – Soon after the start was bumped by HI FRANK causing the gelding slightly inwards and awkwardly onto the heels of AL ASH LAD (T Banks) which shifted out. Rider T Banks was reminded of his obligations when shifting ground.
SCOTLAND – Bumped on jumping. Rider P Hamblin could offer no explanation for the disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer J Baker was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for the poor performance (23L).
THIRTEENTH MAN – Raced wide for the majority. Rider, App W Galloway reported his mount felt flat throughout the event and when placed under pressure proved disappointing, he added that upon entering the home straight the gelding did not feel like it was striding out and he elected to ease his mount down over the final 100m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.
BUGDEN – Restrained shortly after the start from a wide barrier to obtain a position closer to the rails. Rider App H Saunders reported that it was her intention to travel in a rearward position, however, may have been a little further back off the field than anticipated and when she placed the gelding under pressure, proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer M Goodwin advised that BUGDEN will now be leaving his stable, nonetheless, was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for the poor performance (20L).
HI FRANK – Raced wide for the majority.
Race 4 - CRAWFOS TYRES RATINGS BAND 0 - 50 HANDICAP 1000m
This race was delayed approximately 3 minutes due to QUARTER RED being difficult to load.
DESTINY GUNGHO – Slow to begin. Laid out rounding the home turn.
PEE DEE – Knuckled on jumping.
QUARTER RED – Bumped on jumping, then slow into stride. Trainer B Waldron was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for being difficult to load.
STYLISH JOKER – Knuckled on jumping and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority.
PONTOON PRINCE – Laid in when placed under pressure over the final 100m.
SIR OCCY – Slow into stride. Raced wide for the majority.
LAID BACK BON - Raced wide for the majority.
SWEET ABOUT ME – Began awkwardly, knuckled soon after and shifted out. Raced wide for the majority.
Race 5 - ROMA SANDS CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1200m
TALMA I LOVE HER – Eased off heels at the start and lost ground. Raced wide for the majority.
HOFFMAN – Slow to begin.
SPIRIT OF NURAI – Began awkwardly and shifted out taking TALMA I LOVE HER outwards and onto the heels of IVORY FROST and had to be eased.
IVORY FROST - Raced wide for the majority.
FOR THE BRAVE –Change of tactics – to be ridden further back if circumstances permit. After beginning well, settled in a forward position. Laid in under pressure passing the 200m then rider momentarily lost the use of her left rein.
Race 6 - ANDERSENS CARPETS BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1200 M
PESHWA – Bumped on hindquarters soon after the start, then bumped with TERAMBI.
TRANSCELTIC – Eased soon after the start when LUCKY FORCE was carried out by A LOT OF BOOTY (T Banks) which in turn carried TRANSCELTIC outwards and awkwardly onto the heels of PESHWA. Rider T Banks was advised to make more of an effort to correct his mount when shifting ground. Raced keen early.
LUCKY FORCE – At the start shifted in across the heels of A LOT OF BOOTY which shifted out on jumping.
STRATIFIED – Rider App R O’Connell reported his mount travelled well early however when asked for an effort proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities. Trainer L Mawn was advised a warning would be placed on the gelding for the poor performance (26L).
TERAMBI – Began awkwardly and bumped soon after.
WAITAKERE – Rider App H Saunders reported the gelding was slow to muster early speed and felt her mount did its best work over the final 200m. Ms. Saunders added today’s run would be beneficial to the gelding’s overall fitness as this was its first start after an extended spell, she further added the gelding races better over further distances.
A LOT OF BOOTY – Began awkwardly and shifted out, continued to shift out crowding runners to its outside.
BORN FEARLESS – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers after being kicked by another runner. Began awkwardly. Laid in when placed under pressure over the final 100m.
