Stewards approved the following overweights:
 
Race 2: Ryan Wiggins (+1kg), Warwick Satherley (+1/2kg)
Race 3: Ryan Wiggins (+1/2kg)
Race 7: Adam Sewell (+1kg)
 
As apprentice Mitch Goring was unable to attend today’s meeting due to injury, apprentice Gabrielle Semmens was approved as the replacement rider for DUBIOUS BABE in Race 4.
 
Due to his new apprenticeship indentureship paperwork not being finalised in time, apprentice Tom Orr was unable to ride at today’s meeting and was replaced on all engagements, as outlined in the Stewards’ Race Day Summary. As there was no suitable apprentice available as a replacement in Race 5, Stewards approved Anthony Allen as the replacement rider for BOTTOM BAR.
 
 
RACE 1 - GREAT NORTHERN QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP 1050 M
 
POWER HIT – Very fractious in the barriers before rearing and becoming cast. Was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 1.10pm. with betting deductions applicable as follows.
 
1st WASABI BARBIE – less 9 cents win bets and less 15 cents place bets.
2nd STYLISH DIAMOND – less 14 cents place bets.
 
Trainer Jamie McConachy was advised that WASABI BARBIE has been stood down from racing until the completion of a satisfactory trial. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities
 
RED SCENTSATION – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. When questioned regarding the performance, jockey Ryan Wiggins advised that after beginning fairly he elected to restrain and race with cover and gelding then travelled reasonably well in the early and middle stages, however failed to respond to his riding urges from the 600m and the gelding proved to be disappointing. 
 
STYLISH DIAMOND – Jumped away awkwardly at the start. Inclined to lay in on occasions in the home straight when under pressure.        
 
WASABI BARBIE – Jumped away awkwardly at the start. 
 
BOOM CHIKA WOW – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.                 
 
BETTER VALUE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after POWER HIT reared in the adjoining barrier and made contact when rearing. BETTER VALUE was subsequently cleared to start. Jumped away awkwardly at the start. Raced wide throughout.   


RACE 2 - TAB CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1050M
 
ADRANOS – Jumped away awkwardly and bumped with MR GREY at the start. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
SHIPPING LANE – Fractious in the barriers. Jumped away awkwardly. Over raced in the early and middle stages.                 
 
AUGUST JOE – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted outwards bumping MR GREY.  
 
PORT RIVER BILLIE – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result.
 
MR GREY – Buffeted at the start between AUGUST JOE, which jumped outwards and ADRANOS, which began awkwardly. Raced keenly approaching the home turn and was steadied from the heels AUGUST JOE. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 

RACE 3 - LATTER KENNEDY BM55 HANDICAP 1600M
 
MORNING SUN (IRE) – Apprentice McKenzie Apel accidently dropped her whip near the 400m. Carried inwards marginally leaving the 200m when I WANT IT ALL shifted inwards.    
GENERAL WOLFFE – Over raced in the early stages when being restrained to a rearward position.

SNEAKY PEAKY – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.              Laid in under pressure in the home straight.          
 
I WANT IT ALL – Jumped away awkwardly and was a fraction slow to begin. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight and had to be corrected by the rider near the 200m.       
 
RED FEATHERS – Slow to begin.      


RACE 4 - MELBOURNE CUP AT CALLAGHAN PARK QTIS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100 M
 
LORD OF THE FLYS – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin as a result. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer Allan Bennett was advised that the gelding has been stood down from racing until the completion of a satisfactory trial.
 
XTRAVAGANT TIME – Began awkwardly and bumped with FANCY GEEONE. Raced wide in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
DUBIOUS BABE – A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
 
FASHION MAGIC – Jumped away awkwardly and bumped with MEAN MAGIC.              Raced wide in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer Kris Hanson was advised the mare has been stood down from racing until the completion of a satisfactory trial.
 
GROENING –  Jumped away awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
PULSATING – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
WAVE DANCER – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination behind the barriers after contacting the mounting yard enclosure gate enroute to the start and was cleared to start. Jumped away awkwardly.    
 
PROVISEUR (NZ) – Stood flat footed at the start (4L) and a warning was issued against the record of the gelding.        
 
FANCY GEEONE – Jumped away awkwardly and bumped with XTRAVAGANT TIME. Raced wide throughout. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight and had to be corrected by the rider on a number of occasions.     
 
PATIENCEOFASAINT – Raced wide in the early stages. Laid out under pressure in the home straight and had to be corrected by the rider on a number of occasions.            
 
MEAN MAGIC – Jumped away awkwardly and bumped with FASHION MAGIC.      
 
EARLY EDITION – Jumped away awkwardly and bumped with VAREJAO.       
 
VAREJAO – Jumped away awkwardly and bumped with EARLY EDITION.         


RACE 5 - LINCON HIRE AND SALES BM55 HANDICAP 1200 M
 
FIVE STAR KING – Began awkwardly and bumped with SUJEED. Raced wide throughout.       
 
HOU LONG GWAI – Jumped away awkwardly and was slow to begin.
 
CAPITAL CHORD – Jumped away awkwardly.        
 
LONHY'S FABRE – Jumped away awkwardly.                        
 
SUJEED – Jumped away awkwardly. Inclined to shift ground outwards over the final 150m.         
 
NEXT STOP JUPITER – Jumped away awkwardly. Inclined to shift ground outwards over the final 100m.        
 
SNAZZY SNITZEL – Over raced in the early stages.             
 
WHATTA MISSION – Jumped away awkwardly. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.          
 
LA NARRADORA – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin.       
 
LAUNCH MODE – Began awkwardly and bumped with FIVE STAR KING. Hung out for the majority of the event. Trainer Leonie Horstman was advised that a warning has been placed against the racing manners of the gelding.               
 
LUXOR PRINCE – Over raced in the early stages when being restrained.     
 
BOTTOM BAR – Jumped away awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.             


RACE 6 - GET LAST TICKETS FOR CAULFIELD CUP BM70 HANDICAP 1200 M
 
TIZSO FAB – Began awkwardly and bumped with HURTLE at the start.   Apprentice Gabrielle Semmens was queried in relation to the significant lead set up from the remainder of field by her mount and ZEDARI. Miss Semmens advised that she was instructed to lead, which is consistent with the usual racing pattern of TIZSO FAB and her mount commenced to race fiercely soon after the start when ZEDARI was positioned to her immediate outside. Miss Semmens further added that due to ZEDARI over racing to her outside throughout, she was unable to get TIZSO FAB to settle, which ultimately had a detrimental impact on the finishing efforts of her mount. As stewards were satisfied that the explanation of Miss Semmens was supported by the available replays her comments and the circumstances were noted.
 
HURTLE – Began awkwardly and bumped with TIZSO FAB at the start.                 
 
LIMERO – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.            
 
OUTWITTED – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
MISS FUNNY HONEY – Jumped away awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.         
 
UNDERRATED – Fractious in the barriers. Jumped in the air at the start and was slow to begin as a result.       Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
ZEDARI – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early and middle stages. Apprentice Nikki Olzard was questioned regarding the significant lead established over the main body of the field between her own mount and TIZSO FAB in the middle stages. Miss Olzard advised that immediately after the start her mount progressed to race outside TIZSO FAB without being pressured and then commenced to race fiercely despite her concerted efforts. As the available replays and stewards’ own observations fully supported the statements of Miss Olzard, no further action was warranted.          
 
OUR EAGLE ROCK –  Reared at the start and was slow to begin as a result.


RACE 7 - BELROMA PARK BM65 HANDICAP 1400 M
 
WARNA – Jumped away awkwardly and bumped with BE BOB ALOOLA.         
 
OUT OF ACES – Jumped away awkwardly.
 
KING'S DUTY – Jumped away awkwardly and was a fraction slow to begin as a result. Unable to obtain clear running until a point passing the 300m.    
 
BE BOB ALOOLA – Shifted out at the start and bumped with WARNA. Had difficulty obtaining clear running until shifting outwards near the 300m.
 
KAFFIR LILY – Began awkwardly resulting in jockey Anthony Allen becoming unbalanced for a short distance.
 
REMEMBER THE BOYS – Jumped away awkwardly.           
 
ROYAL ARMADA – Raced wide throughout. Hung out noticeably throughout. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination due to pulling up in a distressed state, the examination failed to identify any specific abnormalities apart from a slow recovery rate. Trainer Tim Cook was advised that ROYAL ARMADA has been stood down from racing until presentation of a veterinary clearance and completion of a satisfactory trial. Trainer Cook advised that the racing future of the gelding will be reassessed in the coming days and gave an undertaking to report anything which may explain the post-race mannerisms displayed.
