GENERAL
Co-trainers T. & M. Sears were fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for the late declaration of Apprentice A. McColm as the rider of NATION.
Trainer J. Bellamy was fined $200 purusant to LR36(6) for failing to scratch dual acceptor CHAYSE ’N’ LEISA by the prescribed time.
As rider D. Turner was overweight, he was replaced by G. Cartwright as the rider of TALK THE TORQUE. Rider D. Turner was fined $200 pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when found to be overweight.
As rider A. Allen was indisposed and there was no senior rider available to ride at the weight, Stewards approved Apprentice J. Hampson, a non-claiming apprentice, to replace him as the rider of YOU THINK SO.
D. Turner was replaced by K. Zechner as the rider of MONGOLIAN SPRING (misunderstanding).
Race 1 - BEAUDESERT RACE CLUB FRIDAY AUG 21 MAIDEN PLATE 1150 M
The running of this race was delayed approximately two minutes when NATION became fractious, reared and broke through the back gates, harmlessly dislodging Apprentice A. McColm. NATION subsequently underwent a veterinary examination and was declared a late withdrawal on veterinary advice at 12:35pm.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets placed on NATION be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st TALK THE TORQUE 37c Win 24c Place
2nd GANCENDO 30c Place
3rd HAWAIIAN BLOOM 32c Place
Co-trainers T. & M. Sears were advised NATION would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
AKKU - Raced three-wide without cover for the majority.
GANCEDO - Began awkwardly and bumped PFEIFFER’S KISS.
HAWAIIAN BLOOM Raced keenly in the middle stages.
PFEIFFER'S KISS - Bumped at the start. Laid in under pressure in the straight.
QUEEN OF ACES - Difficult to load, fractious in the gates and when the start was effected, sat back and lost considerable ground. Trainer A. Campton was advised that given the poor record of QUEEN OF ACES, the mare would now be required to complete two consecutive jump outs, to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
Race 2 - DOOMBEN RACING AUG 22 BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP 1540 M
HULKAMANIA – Slow into stride.
NIGHTSTICK – Slow to begin.
POWER REECE – Held up from the 500m until the near the 50m, then laid in toward the hindquarters of CHAYSE ‘N’ LEISA and went to the end of the race without being fully tested.
Race 3 - HUNGERFORD LEHMANN SOLICITORS MAIDEN PLATE 1540 M
The running of this race was delayed 35 minutes when CHERRY BHOMBE became fractious and flipped over in the race day stalls. CHERRY BHOMBE was subsequently declared a late withdrawal at 1:28pm on veterinary advice. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed the filly to have sustained a severe spinal injury and was euthanized humanely. Samples were collected for post-mortem analysis.
Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets placed on CHERRY BHOMBE be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
1st SECRET ROSE 3c Win 4c Place
2nd HOT HOT HOTTER 6c Place
3rd EDGE OF INFINITY 2c Place
Following this delay race times were amended as follows:
Race 4: 2:54pm
Race 5: 3:34pm
Race 6: 4:12pm

BOBBY'S MY MATE – Approaching the 50m momentarily steadied when crowded by HOT HOT HOTTER, which was taken in by SECRET ROSE (D. Peisley), which shifted in under pressure. Rider D. Peisley was advised to exercise more care.
DUN DARTE CHEAP – Bumped at the start. Raced three-wide with cover throughout. Rider B. Lerena reported his mount never travelled comfortably and commenced to weaken on straightening.
HOT HOT HOTTER - Held up for clear running from the 300m until the 150m.
ZAYYANO (NZ) – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped DUN DARTE CHEAP. Held up for clear running from the 300m until passing the 50m and went to the end of the race without being fully tested.
EDGE OF INFINITY - Rider M. Hellyer reported his mount raced keenly throughout and on a number of occasions, was eased from the heels of runners in front.
LAKE OF FIRE – Raced very wide early, before settling three-wide with cover.
PEARL OF SICILY (NZ) – Raced wide early with cover.
SECRET ROSE – Shifted in under pressure over the concluding stages.
SHE LOVES ME – Raced wide without cover from the 800m.
BOSCATINE - Raced wide without cover early. Apprentice M. Apel reported after being caught wide in the middle stages and with the lack of tempo in the race, she elected to push forward and take the lead, passing the 800m.
Race 4 - HAPPY 98TH BIRTHDAY ROBERT LEWIS TOBIAS BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 2000 M
CAST PARTY (GB) – Brushed by BRAIN WAVE near the 150m and over the concluding stages raced tight with that mare.
GOLDEN SMILE (GB) – When asked about the tactics adopted, rider N. Heywood stated that from the wider gate he was asked to find cover. Stable representative M. Eggleston confirmed the instructions, however, was of the view the mare settled further back than expected. Mr. Eggleston was reminded of his obligations to inform Stewards of any proposed tactic changes from the horse’s previous start.
EXPLOSIVE POWER (NZ) - Change of tactics; settle further forward. Settled behind the lead. Shortly after the start buffeted between WEEKEND ARTIST and BRAIN WAVE.
BRAIN WAVE – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having raced at Kilcoy on Monday August 10th. Rider A. Thompson explained after consultation with trainer M. Brosnan, it was decided to try and settle further forward on the mare. Trainer M. Brosnan stated the intention was to be better than midfield but with the slow tempo early, settled more forward than expected.
PAPAL MISS - Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination due to race start frequency. Slow to begin.
YOU THINK SO - Slow to begin. When racing keen early, contacted the rail passing the 1800m and became unbalanced. Then continued to race keen in the middle stages.
BRAVE BOY - Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination having raced at Kilcoy on Monday August 10th. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have bled from both nostrils on the first occasion. Trainer C. Zintilis was advised of his obligations pursuant to AR79(4).
Race 5 - IN MEMORY OF NOEL SMITH RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP 1540 M
SOLIDUDE – Change of tactics; settle further forward. Slow into stride and settled midfield.
HE IS THE KISS – Change of tactics; settle further forward. Settled behind the leaders. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
HANG OUT - Bumped at the start with STATE A FACT. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and laid out. When questioned regarding the seemingly improved performance, stable representative P. Martin explained the gelding had only recently returned from a long layoff due to an off-foreleg injury and took benefit from its first start back on July 4th. He added at its most recent start at Grafton on the 24th July, HANG OUT was not suited to the firmer track, adding that the change of gear today and with improved fitness, the stable was expecting a much more forward performance.
KHARIF – Raced wide without cover from the 700m.
MONTE CARLO MISS – Begam awkwardly.
STATE A FACT - Bumped with HANG OUT at the start.
BRINGME – Approaching the 400m, the near side winker detached from the bridle. Rider M. Hellyer reported the gelding, in his view, failed to back up from its recent start at Ipswich August 7th.
QUALITY MISS – Rider D. McGillivray reported after being caught wide early, he elected to press on and join the leader near the 1400m. He added the mare was not suited to the synthetic surface.
Race 6 - POCO VINO BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1150 M
SPIRIT OF BRODIE - Began awkwardly.
RALPHIE - Bumped at the start.
SPEEDY ONE – Began awkwardly contacted the barrier partition and bumped RALPHIE. Raced three wide with cover in the middle stages.
LADY SHOTGUN - Slow to begin.
MISHANI EGO – Began awkwardly. Rider B. Thornton reported his mount laid out for the majority of the race and made the home turn awkwardly.
MISSILE ONE – Near the 900m, raced tight to the inside of CAT CALL (App A. McColm), which was shifting in to join the lead when not clear. Apprentice A. McColm was advised to exercise more care. Rider M. Hellyer could offer no explanation for the poor performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
AGENDA SETTER - Raced three-wide without cover throughout. On return to the race day stalls, the gelding collapsed and was found to be deceased when the Veterinarian arrived shortly after. Samples were collected for post-mortem analysis.
CAT CALL - Began awkwardly.
Race 7 - GYMPIE TURF CLUB AUG 22 BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1050 M
I AM VOODOO – Blundered on jumping unbalancing Apprentice K. Johnston.
SUPIDO'S CHOICE - Bumped at the start.
DARTH INVADER - Rider R. Wiggins lost his whip near the 150m.
QICKWIT – Blundered on jumping.
MONGOLIAN SPRING (NZ) – Shifted in on jumping bumping TWOEXCEL, which in turn bumped SUPIDO’S POWER.
TWOEXCEL - Bumped at the start. Laid in early and near the 900m, steadied when tightened by MONGOLIAN SPRING, which was racing tight to the inside of I AM VOODO, which was taken in by QICKWIT (App. C. Krahnen), which shifted in when not clear. Apprentice C. Krahnen was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(a) for careless riding.
SUN SISTER – When under pressure in the straight laid in, obliging Apprentice A. McColm to stop riding and straighten the filly on several occasions.
MISS STEFFI – Lerena – Slow into stride.
