GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweight’s due to no suitable rider being available:
Race 1. Paul Hammersley (TO LOVE SOMEBODY) +2.0kg
Race 4. Paul Hammersley (MAGIC SUNNY DAY) +0.5kg
RACE 1 – PILCHER’S CONCRETE QTIS BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1000M
UNIFIES – Laid out rounding the home turn. Laid in under pressure nearing the 250 metres, bumping with REMEMBER ROY. Shifted in under riding near the 100 metres, crowding REMEMBER ROY.
REMEMBER ROY – Began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping with SHE’S GOT LYRICS. Bumped with UNIFIES nearing the 250 metres when that runner laid in. Crowded nearing the 100 metres as a result of UNIFIES (Chris Meehan) shifting in under riding when not clear. Rider Chris Meehan was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR 131(a) for allowing his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear.
EXCELBOOM – Laid in under pressure in the final straight.
TO LOVE SOMEBODY – Disappointed for a run leaving the 250 metres, before shifting to the outside of BOOM BUNNY to continue to improve.
BOOM BUNNY – Rider Peta Edwards reported at scale that her saddle shifted back leaving the 700 metres placing her at a disadvantage in riding the mare out. Raced wide without cover throughout.
HOT TORQUE INVEGAS – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
PENROD – Blundered on jumping, however recovered quickly to lead.
CHIARO DI LUNA – Raced in restricted room approaching the 100 metres when HOT TORQUE INVEGAS laid in. Dipped on its own accord nearing the 50 metres.
SHE’S GOT LYRICS – Bumped on jumping. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
RACE 2 – ABBOT POINT OPERATIONS Maiden Plate 1000M
TOABE – Shifted out on jumping, bumping with EMSIES GIRL. Rider Aidan Holt reported that TOABE raced ungenerously throughout.
WAYLON – Began awkwardly. Over-raced in the early stages.
COSMIC DYNASTY – Shifted in on jumping, bumping heavily with VAN DER WOODSEN. Hung in under pressure in the home straight, resulting in rider Chris Meehan having to stop riding and straighten his mount on several occasions.
EMSIES GIRL – Shifted in on jumping, bumping with TOABE. When questioned regarding the improved performance, trainer Graham Hughes stated that EMSIES GIRL had trialed well leading into the event and that he expected a forward showing today. His explanation was noted.
RUBY DOREEN – RUBY DOREEN was declared a late scratching at 2:10pm after becoming loose behind the barriers after being fractious before galloping an excessive distance before being recaptured. Apprentice rider Julie Busuttin was harmlessly dislodged in this incident. Prior to the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all bets placed on RUBY DOREEN be refunded with the following deductions to apply:
1st EMSIES GIRL 7c win, 9c place
2nd VAN DER WOODSEN 9c place
Given all circumstances, no further action was taken against RUBY DOREEN.
VAN DER WOODSEN – Shifted out on jumping, bumping heavily with COSMIC DYNASTY. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
RACE 3 – LEHMANN PRINT SOLUTIONS OPEN Handicap 1280M
ACROPHOBIC – Slow to begin, before being ridden forward to obtain the lead nearing the 900 metres.
REAL KEY – Began awkwardly.
TURN BIRD – Shifted in abruptly when struck with the whip nearing the 300 metres.
UPSTART LEGEND – Apprentice rider Julie Busittin pleaded guilty to a charge under provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in which she applied her whip to her mount 8 times prior to the 100m and 17 times in totality. Rider Busuttin’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 8 days with the suspension to commence midnight 22nd August 2026 and to conclude midnight 30th August 2026.
RAETIHI (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced ungenerously in the back straight. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn before shifting to the inside of UPSTART LEGEND nearing the 100 metres to continue to improve.
GOT GUMPTION – Raced keenly in the early stages. Rider Ben Kennedy reported at scale that GOT GUMPTION tended to hang out throughout the event.
COLLEANO – Began awkwardly and was slow to begin.
SIR ROCKET – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
RACE 4 – FILBY’S MOTORS RATINGS BAND 0-55 Handicap 1280M
PONTIUS – Over-raced in the preliminary stages.
MAGIC SUNNY DAY – Commenced to hang out badly for a considerable distance leaving the 600 metres, forcing ARANCIA very wide from that point up to the 400 metres, with both runners losing all effective chance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed inflammation and bruising under the tongue. Trainer Terry McGovern was advised that MAGIC SUNNY DAY must now trial to the satisfaction of Stewards prior to racing again.
ARANCIA – Began awkwardly. Forced wider from the 600 metres for a considerable distance because of MAGIC SUNNY DAY hanging out badly and as a result losing effective chance.
SOUND THE BUGLE – Commenced to over-race leaving the 1000 metres and had to be restrained off heels for some distance.
MISS KIYOSHI – Laid in under pressure through the early part of the home straight.
CHALKLEY – Raced in restricted room for some distance leaving the 1000 metres to the inside of MISS KIYOSHI and raced ungenerously until a point nearing the 600 metres.
Following this event, the Stewards inquired into an incident which they observed that occurred on the track when returning to scale involving rider Paul Hammersley. After questioning Mr Hammersley, he was charged under the provisions of AR 228(a) with the particulars being that he misconducted himself by making three unnecessary consecutive sharp checks on the offside rein when returning the fractious MAGIC SUNNY DAY towards the enclosure. Rider Hammersley admitted the breach, and after consideration of all relevant factors, including his good record regarding conduct rules, the Stewards imposed a fine of $200.00.
RACE 5 – BURDEKIN VET SERVICES BEN BOLT CUP BENCHMARK 65 Handicap 1470M
HYDE PARK – Slow to begin.
CARPACCIO – Lost its off-fore plate at the 150 metres.
MISSION HOUSE – Commenced to over-race leaving the 1000 metres and as a result had to be shifted wider nearing the 900 metres, racing wide without cover from that point. Momentarily inconvenienced, nearing the 200 metres as a result of THE HAIRDRESSER laying in. When questioned regarding the riding tactics adopted today, in particular why MISSION HOUSE who was racing on the rails then progressed forward three wide in the middle stages, rider Peta Edwards started that after allowing MISSION HOUSE to settle in a midfield position on the rail, the gelding commenced to pull fiercely leaving the 1000 metres and as a result she allowed the horse to stride forward wider on the track. The explanation was noted.
RAJNISH – Proved difficult to load. Slow into stride.
THE HAIRDRESSER – Bumped rounding the home turn with MARAVILLAS shifted out. Laid in nearing the 200 metres, crowding MARAVILLAS which in turn was taken in onto MISSION HOUSE which was momentarily inconvenienced.
MARAVILLAS – Held up for clear running the home turn before shifting out nearing the 400 metres, bumping with THE HAIRDRESSER. Crowded then taken inwards near the 200 metres when THE HAIRDRESSER laid in.
