When asked about tactics adopted early, particularly in electing to maintain a position outside of leader rather than restrain to obtain cover, Rdr said instructed to be positive at start, however, horse raced keen early & was inclined to lay out particularly around the turns and for this reason, allowed horse to stride rather than to restrain. After viewing patrol footage, Rdr agreed in hindsight, horse would have benefited being ridden with cover in a forward position but considering horses racing manners, no action was taken.

When quest re ride early stages of h/straight, specifically as to reason/s why persisted attempting to improve between runners when it became apparent that run was diminishing & there was insufficient room. Rdr advised after taking trail in early and middle stages, had anticipated that runner continuing to improve & being able to take mount into race. However, when that runner failed to let-down as expected & his mount improved notably when pressured on straightening, mount improved & became awkwardly placed on heels for several strides & checked.

When qst re her tactics adopted throughout the early stages and in particular to the fast tempo set, rdr std after beginning well she allowed mnt to stride forward and that passing the 1200m she anticipated settling to the outside of Final Farewell. She added that as her mnt was travelling comfortably, she elected to obtain the outright lead near the 1000m and once obtaining this position her mnt was able to set a more suitable tempo. Stewards accepted rdr’s explanation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
