GENERAL

Stewards permitted the following overweight:
Race 10: AFFINITY FLYER – K. Matheson +0.5kg (56kg)
 
SAVOLDI (Race 2) was declared a late scratching at 9:09am due to transport difficulties.
 
As today’s meeting and the transferred feature Gold Coast meeting were being run simultaneously, and with a number of jockeys engaged to ride at both venues, Stewards elected not to take any action against trainers for the late rider declarations for today’s meeting.
 
Race 1: THE GIBSON QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD MAIDEN PLATE 1200 M
 
The start of this race was delayed due to BALANCE THE BOOKS undergoing a pre-race veterinary examination after becoming fractious in the barriers and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 10:28am on veterinary advice. Trainer T. Gollan was advised the filly would require a further barrier certificate prior to being permitted to race again.
 
On the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered all bets on BALANCE THE BOOKS to be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st - TRAPEZE ALERT – 29c win, 26c place.
2nd - FAST FUN – 30c place.
3rd - JOPPA LANE – 30c place.
 
ABENDER – Over raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain a position with cover. Raced wide for the majority. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey R. Maloney stated his mount over raced in the early stages and in his opinion, this had a detrimental effect on the gelding’s overall performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
INNERVISIONS - Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported his mount travelled well however failed to respond to his riding in the home straight and proved disappointing.
 
LINWAR – Began awkwardly and bumped with TRAPEZE ALERT. Shortly thereafter, steadied from the heels of ABENDER (R. Maloney) which shifted in. Jockey R. Maloney was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.
 
TRAPEZE ALERT – Began awkwardly and bumped with LINWAR.
 
BIG TECH – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority.
 
JOPPA LANE – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 2: LADBROKES CALCUTTA & LUNCHEON 13 JUNE QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP         1200 M

THE GAMBLING GREEK – Began awkwardly.
 
POSTER GIRL – Shifted in under pressure over the final 100m.
 
CUTEPI – Approaching the 1000m, raced in restricted room before being obliged to shift closer to the rail when taken in by POSTER GIRL (S. Rutledge). Jockey S. Rutledge was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident. 
 
SUNLIGHT MAJESTY – Began awkwardly. Laid out under pressure over the final 150m. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey M. Du Plessis stated the gelding travelled well until placed under pressure and then commenced to lay out over the final 150m. He further added in his opinion, SUNLIGHT MAJESTY may not have appreciated today’s track conditions. Co-Trainer W. Hulbert concurred with the comments of Jockey M. Du Plessis and further added that due to the recent wet weather event in Southeast Queensland, the gelding had missed some work leading into the event which may have contributed towards its disappointing performance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
TAKE A BOW – Approaching the 1000m, raced in restricted room for some distance and had to be steadied. Approaching the 200m, obliged to shift in to secure clear running. Disappointed for a run leaving the 50m.
 
BOLSHEVIC ROAD – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 3: MOREE DESPERATES BENCHMARK 80 HANDICAP         1820 M
 
NORTHERN DECREE (NZ) – Over raced in the middle stages. Leaving the 800m, improved onto heels when over racing and was obliged to shift out.
 
KORUTO – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
OSTERMEIER – Slow to begin.
 
ANEMACORE (NZ) – Jockey M. Rodd reported his mount failed to quicken as anticipated when placed under pressure and did not feel entirely comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
SUPER CHILLED – Approaching the 500m, momentarily raced in restricted room to the inside of OSTERMEIER.
 
KIPLING'S JOURNEY – When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance, Co-Trainer W. Hulbert advised Stewards the gelding is a one pace and needs to build momentum in its races and today was able to find a forward position and get into a comfortable rhythm. He further added the gelding at its previous start, had difficulty securing clear running which stop its momentum at a crucial stage of the race. Stewards noted the comments.
 
GRINZINGER KNIGHT – Brushed by NAVAL SEAL approaching the winning post.
 
NAVAL SEAL – Shifted out under pressure approaching the winning post and brushed GRINZINGER KNIGHT.
 
Race 4: SKY RACING BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP         1400 M
 
SPACE TRACKER (IRE) – Began awkwardly. Approaching the 350m, shifted out and bumped TREPORTI.
 
IMATRUESTAR – Slow to begin. Leaving the 100m, improved into a narrow run between SPACE TRACKER (IRE) and TREPORTI.
 
TREPORTI – Approaching the 350m, bumped by SPACE TRACKER (IRE) which shifted out to improve. Near the 100m, bumped by IMATRUESTAR which shifted out to improve. Lost its off fore plate.
 
VOLCANIC LOVE – Slow to begin. Bumped with MOKTAFFY (IRE) on a number of occasions leaving the 350m until approaching the 250m. Jockey J. Huxtable rider of MOKTAFFY (IRE) was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident.
 
HANG FIVE – Began awkwardly.
 
MOKTAFFY (IRE) – Approaching the 350m, bumped by VOLCANIC LOVE which shifted out to improve. Jockey R. Downey rider of VOLCANIC LOVE was reprimanded pursuant to AR 131(a) for careless riding in this incident. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting clinical signs of heat stress.
 
TAVIS TOWN (NZ) – Raced wide for the majority. Apprentice C. Vitler reported the gelding did not feel comfortable in its action. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a slow recovery.  
 
UNTIL VALHALLA – When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported he was obliged to settle further back in the field than anticipated and that the mare was not suited by the tempo of the event.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
NOBLE CONQUEROR – Held up for clear running in the home straight until leaving the 300m. Raced in restricted room approaching the winning post and had to be steadied when awkwardly placed on the heels of VICTORY WIN (R. Maloney) which shifted in marginally. Jockey R. Maloney was reminded of his obligations when his mounts begin to shift ground.  
 
Following the running of this race, Jockey J. Huxtable was assessed by the club doctor and stood down for the remainder of his engagements due to swelling in his right ankle. Jockey J. Huxtable was advised he would require medical clearance prior to resuming. Stewards permitted the rider changes as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Race 5: XXXX SIDELINE BEER GARDEN 3 MAY BENCHMARK 85 HANDICAP       1200 M
 
BRERETON – Over raced in the middle stages when the pace of the race slackened. Jockey R. Maloney reported his mount was not suited by the slow tempo set in the middle stages.
 
MANHOOD – Shifted out under pressure near the 200m.
 
BLAKMAX – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
LOST IN TRANSIT – Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure over the final 100m.
 
SHA OF GOMER – Began awkwardly.
 
BEAUX RUMBLE – Over raced in the middle stages when the pace of the race slackened. Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.
 
MINTAKA LAD – Over raced in the middle stages when the pace of the race slackened. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey M. Harley stated his mount over raced and was not suited by the slow tempo set in the middle stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
SAILOR'S SECRET – Raced wide for the majority.
 
Race 6: SPORTING CHANCE CANCER FOUNDATION OPEN HANDICAP 1000 M

STEADY READY – Hampered at the start. Raced wide until the 600m.
 
SINAWANN (IRE) – Bumped shortly after the start.  
 
SAFEWORK – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
WANDA ROX – Began awkwardly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have a minor laceration to the near fore pastern and coronet area and to be exhibiting clinical signs of the thumps.
 
SITUATION ROOM – Shifted out under pressure near the 250m.
 
NASHIRA – Began awkwardly.
 
RELIABLE RUBY (NZ) – Raced wide for the majority.
 
HE'S HEAVEN – Slow to begin. Leaving the 300m, improved onto heels and was obliged to shift in to secure clear running.
 
Race 7: RHEEM HEAT PUMPS QTIS TWO-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP 1000 M
 
TORO CHASE – Jockey N. Beriman reported the gelding made an abnormal respiratory noise. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer J. Mason advised it is his intention to have the gelding scoped and will report back to Stewards with any findings.
 
IMPERVIOUS – Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
SURE START – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority. Laid out approaching and rounding the home turn. Jockey L. Dempsey reported his mount hung out approaching and rounding the home turn. He further added that in the home straight the filly continued to want to lay out when placed under pressure. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a superficial laceration to its nearside pastern.
 
BEFORE ANYONE ELSE – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice E. Lang stated the filly tired over the final 200m which she attributed to having to use her mount in the early stages to cross from the wide barrier. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a slow recovery.
 
BLINDING SPEED – Raced wide for the majority. Inconvenienced and carried wider approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
FINANCIALLY FAMOUS – Slow to begin.
 
Race 8: SENQ 693AM COZ & HEALS FOR BREAKFAST QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD HANDICAP         1600 M
 
PRINCE LEVI – Checked and became unbalanced leaving the 1200m. As a result of Jockey T. Marshall having riding obligations at another venue, Stewards intend to inquire into this matter at a date and time to be determined.
 
DEEP FOCUS (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Shifted out to improve approaching the 500m.
 
HE'S A SAINT (NZ) – Raced keenly in the early stages. Checked and became unbalanced leaving the 1200m. Stewards intend to inquire into the matter at a date and time to be determined. Forced wider approaching the 500m when DEEP FOCUS (NZ) shifted out to improve.
 
PHILIA – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a poor recovery.
 
GOOD PHILLY – Began awkwardly. Jockey L. Tarrant reported it was not his intention to lead however after beginning well and in an effort not to be caught wide, he allowed the filly to stride forward to a leading position approaching the 1300m.  
 
PULPIT – Slow to begin. Tightened and became unbalanced leaving the 1200m.
 
Race 9: AC SELECT CLASS 1 HANDICAP    1200 M
 
RIVER RIBBLE – Bumped at the start.
 
PALANTUS – Raced wide for the majority.
 
DANCE WIZZARD – Began awkwardly. Raced wide in the early stages.
 
CHO OYU – Began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped with RIVER RIBBLE.
 
MERCIAN – Raced in restricted room approaching the 500m.
 
MEHRETU – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running rounding the home turn. Approaching the 300m, disappointed for a run and had to be steadied. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice E. Lang stated from the wide draw, she was obliged to settle further back than she anticipated, and the filly was also not suited to the tempo of the race.
 
MIST OF DAWN – Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn until leaving the 350m. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey M. Harley stated that after being slow to begin, he was obliged to settled further back than he anticipated.
 
VOCALS – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 10: FUJITSU | AIRSTAGE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP         1200 M
 
MOUNT FUJI – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Approaching the 800m, improved onto the heels of MIDORI BEAUTY and had to be checked.  
 
RIMBAUD – Raced wide for the majority.
 
FORTUNEER – Raced wide for the majority. Leaving the 400m, inconvenienced and taken wider after INSTAGOOD shifted out after being bumped.
 
SCUD – Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 800m.
 
MIDORI BEAUTY – Slow to begin. Obliged to alter course leaving the 300m.
 
SUPER DUCK – Approaching the 900m shifted in after becoming awkwardly placed at the heels of CHERRY ROSE.
 
MEAN APPROACH – Began awkwardly. Inconvenienced approaching the 350m..
 
INSTAGOOD – Raced wide for the majority. Bumped and carried wider by SER JOH leaving the 400m.
 
SER JOH – Approaching the 1000m, raced in restricted room and had to be steadied and again had to be steadied approaching the 900m.
 
DEER TRAIL– Approaching the 900m, had to be steadied to avoid the heels of SUPER DUCK. After taking evidence from jockey R. Maloney and riders J. Lloyd (SER JOH), S. Rutledge (SUPER DUCK), and K. Wilson-Taylor (CHERRY ROSE), Stewards adjourned this matter to a date and time to be determined.
 
MA'S EPIC – Began awkwardly and blundered shortly thereafter. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Raced wide for the majority. A post-race veterinary revealed the mare to have an abrasion to the off fore heel bulb.
 
Race 11: LADBROKES ODDS SURGE BENCHMARK 65 HANDICAP       1400 M
 
The start of this race was delayed by approximately six (6) minutes due toHEYOKA requiring farrier attention to the near fore plate behind the barriers. HEYOKA underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was subsequently cleared to start.
 
OCEAN ALPS – Began awkwardly.
 
PORKY – Near the 600m, raced in restricted room.
 
EXECUTIVE STRESS – Raced wide for the majority. After the race it was noted the gelding lost its near hind plate.
 
LOYALTY COUNTS – Slow to begin.
 
HEYOKA – Leaving the 300m, shifted out under pressure.
 
TOO MUCH MAKEUP – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
