SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

From Ipswich 13/3/2025:
Race 6 - 4:40PM RED BULL AUSTRALIA Class 3 Handicap 1100 METRES
 
ROTHGO – Trainer J. Thomas advised in the days following the event, the gelding had responded well to lacerations suffered to both hindlegs and will continue with its preparation.
 
From Sunshine Coast 16/3/2025:
Race 7: HEIGHT 4 HIRE BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP 2400 M:
 
YOUTH SPIRIT – Trainer M. Morrison reported that on return to the stable the gelding had a swollen offside eye which would have contributed to the poor performance.
 
GENERAL

Stewards approved the following overweight allowance at today’s meeting:
Race 8 – CASINO COAST – W. O’Connell +1kg (55kg)
 
Race 1: TAB WE'RE ON MAIDEN HANDICAP 1400M

NATIONAL GOAL – Near the 700m, had to be restrained from the heels of PARO (L. Dempsey) which shifted in before being corrected by its rider. Jockey L. Dempsey was advised to exercise greater care in similar circumstances. Raced wide throughout. When asked to comment jockey J. Guthmann-Chester advised the gelding was not suited by the slow tempo in the early and middle stages of the event, and in his opinion is better suited to races on a bigger track than that of today.
 
PARO – Near the 1000m, raced in restricted room between ALL EYES ON HER and SHAPE OF WATER for a short distance. Near the 800m, momentarily steadied from the heels of SHAPE OF WATER. Raced wide throughout.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a puncture wound to its off foreleg. Trainer B. Lockwood was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary clearance prior to next racing.
 
SUMICH – Bumped on jumping. Cast its off-fore plate in running.
 
ALL EYES ON HER – Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor, rider of 4th placegetter ALL EYES ON HER was reprimanded pursuant to AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out over the concluding stages.
 
CRIMSON SPIRIT – Bumped on jumping. Rounding the home turn was taken out when SUMICH shifted out to improve and as a result bumped with MONFARETTO.
 
SHAPE OF WATER – Began awkwardly. When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance, trainer O. Cairns stated the gelding today was suited to racing on its home track and with the application of blinkers, she was not overly surprised by today’s performance.
 
LORD DANILO – Slow to begin.
 
GLENRAY'S MATE – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
MONFARETTO – Bumped rounding the home turn.
 
 
Race 2: STRONGER FIRST FOALS MAIDEN HANDICAP 1100M
 
The start of this race was delayed when POINT TWO dislodged apprentice K. Johnston when moving onto the track, galloped riderless for some distance, before being captured and declared a late scratching at 1:02pm. Upon the declaration of correct weight, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on POINT TWO be refunded in full with the following deductions to apply:
 
1st MORGANITE – 0c the win, 1c the place
2nd MORE FOR READY – 1c the place
3rd BEANS MEANS – 2c the place
 
Trainer B. Ahrens was advised that the filly would be required to officially trial prior to next racing.
 
BEANS MEANS – Raced keenly from the 600m until the 300m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
MORE FOR READY – Near the 600m, forced wider on the track and obliged to race in a four-wide position for the remainder.
 
MUSIC FEVER – Raced wide throughout.
 
ADELA NIGHT – Slow to begin.
 
ONATARE – Fractious in mounting enclosure. Trainer B. Ahrens was advised that a warning would be placed on the pre-race manners of the mare. Raced wide for the majority.

POINT TWO – As apprentice R. Thorburn was overweight, he was replaced by apprentice K. Johnston. Stewards accepted apprentice R. Thorburn’s explanation for the overweight.
 
NIRVANA THE STORM – Began very awkwardly and lost ground. When racing keenly near the 600m, improved onto heels, shifted out, forcing MORE FOR READY wider on the track.
 
PHOENIX STORM – Near the 150m, momentarily steadied when NIRVANA THE STORM shifted in before being corrected by its rider.

Following the running of this race, the track was upgraded to a good 4.

Race 3: OFFICIATING AT AQUIS BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1100M

MR POLAR – Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
REIGN OF POWER – Slow to begin.
 
HEARTS ARE RACING – Began awkwardly.  
 
MISS ZERMATT – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn. When asked to comment on the performance, Apprentice M. Philpot reported it was her intention to hold a more forward position, however the mare was unable to muster speed in the early stages and settled further back than anticipated. She added that MISS ZERMATT in her opinion would be better suited to a step up in distance going forward.
 
MIDNIGHT IN AUSTIN – Held up approaching the home turn.
 
QICKWIT – Blundered on jumping. Raced wide from the 600m.

Race 4: ANZAC DAY RACES COUNTRY LUNCHEON ON SALE BENCHMARK 55 HANDICAP 1100M

THROWIN SHADE – Put its head down as the start was effected and lost considerable ground. Trainer B. Ahrens was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners. Raced wide throughout.
 
DRAGON SONG – Held up approaching and rounding the home turn.
 
PLATINUM GIFT – Raced wide in the early stages. When asked to comment, apprentice J. McMurray could offer no explanation for the performance other than the gelding is better suited when leading. Trainer A. Campton concurred with comments of apprentice McMurray.
 
ROADHOUSE – Checked from the heels of HIT on jumping and lost ground.
 
AMNESIA –  Trainer K. Goldman was fined $100 pursuant to LR67(1) for failing to notify a rider within the prescribed time. Raced wide throughout.
 
HIT – Began awkwardly and shifted out.
 
BUN IN THE OVEN – Blundered on jumping and lost ground.
 
JUST FOR PLEASURE – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages when being restrained to obtain cover.
 
Race 5: TAB WE'RE ON BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP 1100M

WONFORWAZZA – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout.
 
DON'T BE DRAMATIC – Began awkwardly. Over raced in the early stages. Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester reported instructions were to ride the gelding in a forward position, however after beginning awkwardly he was obliged to pressure DON’T BE DRAMATIC and as a result the horse over raced between the 1000m and the 700m which in his opinion had a detrimental effect on the finishing effort of the gelding in the home straight.
 
MOOTESSA – Momentarily held up on heels at the entrance to the home straight.
 
KEYBOARD – Raced in restricted room for a short distance after the start between CHAYSE’N’SCOTTY and SMOOTH FLIGHT which laid out.
 
BENGAL DIAMOND – Slow to begin.
 
GALACTIC LEGEND – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
CHAYSE'N'SCOTTY – Raced wide throughout.

Race 6: ANZAC DAY RACES 25 APRIL BOOK NOW BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1400M
 
WAVERLEY – Near the 500m, improved to the inside of RUSSIAN MYSTIC(J. Guthmann-Chester), was momentarily crowded for room and had to be steadied. Jockey J. Guthmann-Chester was advised to exercise greater care.
 
CAPITAL CEE – Bumped at the start and lost ground. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
RUSSIAN MYSTIC – Slow to begin. Held up for clear running approaching the home turn. Passing the winning post, crowded for room to the inside of SPEED MAP which shifted in. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to its tongue.
 
TYPHOON TIP – Bumped at the start.
 
FRIEND IN NEED – Began awkwardly and as a result settled further back in the field than anticipated.  
 
ROMAN HEIR – Bumped at the start. Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
Race 7: BEAUDESERTRACECLUB.COM RATINGS BAND 0 - 55 HANDICAP 1400M

OAKFIELD STORM – Raced wide throughout.

TUQIRI – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
GREY EFFECTS – Jockey J. Bayliss advised it was not his intention to lead however after beginning well, he took up a forward position. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. In light of today’s performance, trainer B. Ahrens indicated that the gelding would now be retired from racing.
 
BIRMINGHAM – Raced wide throughout. Near the 500m, had to be steadied from the heels of IS SWEET (S. Cormack) which shifted out to improve. Had some difficulty obtaining clear running for the majority of the home straight.
 
PARUES – Jockey S. Collett reported her saddle shifted back shortly after the start which placed her at a disadvantage during the event.
 
ANCIENT MISSION – Slow to begin.
 
INTENTIONAL LASS – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
BEAN ALL OVA – After being crossed by REACHOVER near the 900m, raced keenly at the heels of that runner for a short distance thereafter.
 
PROPHET OF BOOM – Had some difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 100m.
 
REACHOVER – When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance, trainer G. Lane advised that it was the geldings first start for the stable, he had varied its training routine and with it winning a jumpout last week, he was expecting a forward showing it todays event.

Race 8: JONKER FIRST YEARLINGS 2025 CLASS 4 HANDICAP 1650M

SARSEN – Passing the winning post on the first occasion, raced in restricted room to the inside of JUMEIRAH TRIANGLE. When asked to comment on tactics adopted, jockey A. Thompson advised that after only beginning fairly, he was obliged to settle further back than anticipated and when the pace of the race increased passing the 500m, SARSEN was unable to quicken, however after obtaining clear running in the home straight, finished the race off fairly. Stewards noted his explanation.
 
EXPOSITION – Weakened from the 400m. When asked to comment on the disappointing performance jockey B. Lerena stated instructions were to race in a handy position, however after being caught wide in the early stages, he allowed the gelding to stride forward to race outside the leader lead the event from the 900m. Jockey Lerena added that in his opinion the horse was not suited to the fast early tempo of the race which he believes had an effect on its finishing effort. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
 
BIE'RES – Raced wide throughout.
 
JUMEIRAH TRIANGLE – As jockey J. Bayliss was overweight, he was replaced by Apprentice T. Fenlon. Jockey J. Bayliss was reprimanded pursuant to AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. When determining penalty, Stewards considered Jockey Bayliss’ good record in relation to this rule. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
CASINO COAST – Held up for clear running from the 300m until the entrance to the home straight.
