Race 1: 1EQUINE - FOR THE EQUINE ATHLETE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000m)

BLANCH – Bumped soon after the start. Raced wide for the majority. Leaving the 500m shifted in when not fully clear of POWIAS which was obliged to steady. Apprentice L. O’Donnell was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, shifting in near the 100m momentarily hampering POWIAS. Apprentice L. O’Donnell was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding and advised to straighten her mounts sooner. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a minor laceration to the off-side hock.
 
ENTITLE – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
STELLA BOO – Apprentice S. Callow was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(b) for failing to ride her mount out to the finish of the event. In assessing the matter, Stewards noted that Apprentice Callow had maintained her fourth-place finish however, were of the opinion that her vigor was far below the expected standard. Lost its near-fore plate in running.
 
ACCELERATE RAPIDLY – Began awkwardly. Momentarily crowded having to be steadied near the 800m. Tightened for room and was obliged to check approaching the 100m.  
 
RUBBER BULLETS – Began awkwardly before bumping soon after and being momentarily tightened. Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight. Jockey L. Tilley was found guilty of a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding in that approaching the 100m he did exercise insufficient effort in preventing his mount from shifting in consequently tightening the running of ACCELERATE RAPIDLY obliging that runner to be checked and lose its rightful running. Jockey Tilley’s license to ride in races was suspended for 9 days, commencing 10 April 2025 up to and including 18 April 2025. In assessing the matter, Stewards considered the degree of carelessness and interference, Jockey Tilley’s not guilty plea and record in relation to the rule as well as the QRIC penalty guidelines. Jockey Tilley was advised of his rights to an appeal.
 
SPIRIT SEEKER – Improved onto heels near the 500m having to be shifted wider. Crowded and steadied from heels near the 350m.
 
BLAME THE BUBBLES – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority. Shifted in near the 350m crowding SPIRIT SEEKER. Jockey K. Yoshida was advised to exercise greater care. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
POWIAS – Obliged to steady from heels near the 500m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight, before being hampered near the 100m and having to be shifted in. Shifted out near the 350m crowding SPIRIT SEEKER. Apprentice S. Willis was advised to exercise greater care.
 
LOVE TO ALL – Slow to begin. Held-up for clear running rounding the home-turn. When asked to comment on the performance Trainer M Nolan stated that, in his opinion, the mare was underrepresented in the market given its most recent performance after a tough run when caught wide. Adding that with a more favorable run in transit and the step up in distance when third up in the preparation had been contributing factors to the winning performance.
 
 
Race 2: ARMSTRONG GWM MAIDEN HANDICAP    (1300m)

DEL TITO – Laid in when under pressure in the home straight.
 
SAMURAI WARRIOR (NZ) – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Began awkwardly before being crowded soon after.
 
DUKE OF LANCASTER – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost ground. Trainer A. Robinson was advised that the gelding would now be required to trial prior racing again.
 
MY TENNESSEE (NZ) – Raced keenly in the middle stages.
 
NOVADAN – Began very awkwardly before being bumped and taken wider. Bumped the running rail near the 1000m and again near the 550m. Apprentice K. Lenton reported that the gelding laid in throughout the event.
 
TICKLE MY TOSEN – Began very awkwardly and bumped soon after the start. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages, improving onto heels near the 800m having to be steadied. Shifted out near the 400m to obtain clear running and momentarily inconvenienced ALLEZBEC. Jockey K. Zechner was advised to exercise greater care.
 
ALLEZBEC – Momentarily inconvenienced near the 400m. Hung in throughout the event proving very difficult to ride out in the home straight. Trainer M. Currie was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s record.
 
GOOD GIRL POLLY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
 
Race 3: BROWN FAMILY WINE GROUP QTIS THREE-YEAR-OLD BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP (1200m)

COLE'S BEST – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Trainer L. Hatch advised the stable had expected a further improved performance with the recent gear change and step down in class, adding that the rig is best suited when able to dictate in front as in todays event.
 
REIGNING ALPHA – Laid in onto heels near the 400m before being shifted out to obtain clear running. Bumped near the 50m. Laid out under pressure over the concluding stages before bumping again.
 
SPIRIT FOX – Bumped over the concluding stages.
 
JUST CLIFFY – Steadied near the 200m when momentarily awkwardly placed on heels. Bumped near the 50m.
 
READY GREY – Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BROOKLYN DAISY – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly on heels for some distance passing the 500m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
YES I'M UGLY – Stewards permitted Jockey H. Richardson to be declared the replacement rider when Jockey J. Baker was unable to satisfy the allocated weight. Jockey Baker was subsequently severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR190(3) for accepting a ride when overweight. Stewards noted Jockey Bakers good recent record in relation to the rule.
 
MISHANI INVINCIBLE – Began awkwardly. Raced wide for the majority. Commenced to weaken from the 400m before being eased down over the concluding stages. When asked to comment on the performance, Jockey N. Tomizawa advised that he had to make some use of the filly in the early stages to obtain a favourable position, which proved detrimental to its finishing efforts. A post-race veterinary examination revealed filly to be exhibiting mildly slow post-race recovery.
 
ZOU ZOUTUKATUKIA – Slow to begin before losing ground in the early stages. Trainer K. Kemp was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s record.
 

Race 4: ENTERPRISE LEGAL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1890m)

JUMEIRAH TRIANGLE – Raced wide in the early stages before being urged forward near the 1500m and settling outside the leader near the 1300m. Bumped near the 400m. Commenced to give ground leaving the 300m. When asked to comment on the performance Apprentice L. O’Donnell stated that, in her opinion, the gelding may not have appreciated the step up in distance with the three weeks between runs. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a mildly slow recovery.
 
SHAKE'N'BAKE – Slow to begin and subsequently raced wide in the early stages before being steadied near the 1400m to obtain a position with cover near the rear of the field. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BRAVE DEEL – Began awkwardly before being restrained in the early stages to obtain a position with cover.
 
JETPACK VERDI (NZ) – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages. Shifted in when not fully clear of ANOTHER DAZZLER near the 400m. Jockey J. Baker was reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding.
 
SEA TREASURES (NZ) – Raced keenly for some distance passing the 1700m when being restrained to obtain a position with cover. Bumped near the 400m.
 
ANOTHER DAZZLER – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the middle stages. Obliged to steady from heels near the 400m.
 
LIZZIE'S PRIDE (NZ) – Fractious in the mounting yard and proved reluctant to proceed onto the track before making contact with the mounting yard fence. Trainer G. Wright was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s record for its pre-race behaviour. Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination and was cleared to start. Raced keenly for some distance passing the 1300m. Apprentice C. Baker was reminded of her obligations under the provisions of AR131(b) to ride her mounts out fully to the finish.
 
JORUM – Raced keenly in the middle stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
POT POT BOOM – Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Shifted the off-fore plate in running.
 
 
Race 5: PLATINUM GLASS & SECURITY CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1000m)

ESTE DIA – Bumped near the 800m and became unbalanced.
 
FLUDWAY – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start being effected. Began very awkwardly and lost ground. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ARCTIC BEAR – Began awkwardly. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
BOONAH FLASHER – Began awkwardly and bumped. Raced wide for the majority. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
GAZZA'S DIAMOND – Bumped on jumping.
 
LITTLE SPARK – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
DUCHESS BREE – Slow to begin.
 
ALMOST EVEN – Bumped near the 800m. Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Raced wide for the majority.
 

Race 6: HAPPY 70TH BIRTHDAY RICHARD LIGHT BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP (1300m)

MOKTAFFY (IRE) – Steadied soon after the start when being crowded. Raced keenly in the early stages. Improved onto heels near the 500m and shifted wider.
 
GRANITE PRINCE – Began awkwardly. Held-up for clear running approaching the 400m and again approaching the 300m. Laid in under pressure in the home straight proving somewhat difficult to ride out.

NEVER GIVE UP - Shifted wider near the 400m after improving onto heels of a weakening runner.
 
MAURICE'S MEDAD – Slow to begin. Under pressure from the 1000m in order to maintain contact with the body of the field.  
 
NORTHERNONTAP – Raced keenly in the early stages. Bumped near the 400m.
 
DON'T DISS AROUND – Stood flat-footed as the start was effected and lost ground. Tailed the field throughout. Laid in abruptly on entering the home straight. Trainer J. Hanna was advised that the gelding would be required to trial prior to racing again. Jockey N. Fazackerley stated that the gelding felt uncomfortable in its action throughout the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly tying-up.
 
CELESTIAL HARBOUR – Began very awkwardly. Shifted wider near the 400m to avoid the heels of a weakening runner. Bumped near the 400m.
 
VIENNAWAITSFORYOU - Raced wide until the 1000m. Eased down the from the 400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be tying-up. Trainer D. Groves advised that he would now consider the immediate racing future of the mare, indicating it would most likely be sent for a spell.
 
 
Race 7: GERRY BROWN'S SHELVING & STORAGE BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1200m)

FIGHTING IDOL – Began awkwardly and bumped. Became awkwardly placed on heels and shifted out abruptly approaching the 200m. Raced wide for the majority.
 
INATICK – Began awkwardly.
 
DOWNEY – Stewards permitted Jockey N. Fazackerley to replace Jockey J. Huxtable who was unable to fulfil his engagement due to illness. Jockey Huxtable was advised he would require a medical clearance prior to riding again. Began awkwardly, bumped and subsequently lost ground.
 
ANYWAY YOU WANT IT – Raced keenly in the early stages. Crowded near the 800m. Bumped rounding the home-turn. Laid in under pressure in the home straight. Steadied to avoid heels approaching the 200m, shifted out and bumped.
 
EXPLOSIVE DRAGON – Raced keenly in the early stages. Laid in onto heels near the 250m having to be corrected by its rider.
 
SMOOTH FLIGHT – Began awkwardly. Raced keenly in the early stages.
 
INSPIRED DREAM – Laid in under pressure in the early part of the home straight, becoming awkwardly placed on heels near approaching the 200m before shifting out abruptly. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be exhibiting clinical signs of cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer M Sears was advised the mare would require a veterinary clearance inclusive of an ECG prior to galloping 1000m and having a cardiac occultation conducted by a veterinarian within 15minutes of completing the gallop.
 
NEW YORK GAL – Raced wide for the majority. Shifted in near the 800m momentarily crowding ANYWAY YOU WANT IT and MOUNT DOVE. Jockey L. Tilley was advised to exercise greater care. Bumped rounding the home-turn. Tightened for room and restrained from heels approaching the 200m before being buffeted between runners.
 
HUSSON'S REVENGE – Raced wide for the majority. Bumped passing the 200m.
 
MOUNT DOVE – Slow to begin, before becoming crowded between runners and losing ground. Crowded near the 800m.
 
 
Stewards inquired into the reasons ANYWAY YOU WANT IT and NEW YORK GAL were restrained approaching the 200m. After taking evidence from the riders involved and reviewing the available patrol footage Stewards determined that approaching the 200m AERIAL BAY shifted out marginally whilst INSPIRED DREAM laid in and became awkwardly placed on that runners heels before shifting out abruptly into the running of FIGHTING IDOL which was in turn shifted out abruptly and excessively, across the running of ANYWAY YOU WANT IT which was restrained before shifting out and bumping. FIGHTING IDOL then continued out into the running of NEW YORK GAL which was restrained whilst being buffeted between ANYWAY YOU WANT IT and HUSSON’S REVENGE. Stewards were of the view that no rider/s could be held accountable to a culpable standard for the interference and as such deemed the matter a racing incident. Nonetheless, Stewards advised all riders to exercise far greater care in similar circumstances and to exercise far greater measures in controlling their mounts.
