Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. When asked for a comment on the performance, apprentice L O’Donnell stated that it was not her intention to settle in the second half of the field in the early stages, however, after beginning awkwardly she had to elect to settle further back than anticipated to allow the mare to travel in a position closer to the rail where comfortable. Apprentice O’Donnell added that MOMENT OF TRUTH had finished off the race in a positive manner, however being unable to find that position further forward in the field proved detrimental to the mare’s overall chances. Stewards noted apprentice O’Donnell’s comments.

ALL POWERED UP – Overraced in the early and middle stages. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

Hung in near the 400m, placing SET THE SAILS in restricted room momentarily. When asked for a comment on the performance, jockey A Sewell reported that TORQUE OF DREAMS proved difficult to ride out due to its tendency to hang in throughout the event. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer L Manzelmann was advised that a warning would be placed on TORQUE OF DREAMS’ record for hanging in throughout.

WELL RESTED – Jumped away awkwardly and shifted in, bumping CLEVE. Raced wide throughout.

Trainer Hatfield was advised that stewards would monitor CLEVE’s performance in future starts moving forward.

RACE 4: BOOK EVENT CENTRE FOR FUNCTIONS QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP (1050 METRES)

CAPRICORNUS – After apprentice M Apel was indisposed, stewards heard submissions from trainer R Vale in relation to the declaration of jockey R Silvera Olivera, stewards granted permission and approved the rider replacement. Jumped away awkwardly. Shortly after the start bumped heavily with SPIRITED. Held up in the home straight until a point near the 250m.

SET FOR LIFE – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Inclined to hang out from a point near the 600m rounding the home turn.

STYX RIVER – Raced wide in the early stages. Raced keenly in the early stages. Near the 300m, had to check and lose its rightful run when CAPRICORNUS (R Silvera Olivera) shifted outwards when insufficiently clear to do so. Jockey R Silvera Olivera pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) for careless riding. In determining penalty, stewards considered the carelessness and interference suffered to STYX RIVER, guilty plea and previous record in relation to the careless riding template. Jockey R Silvera Olivera’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days, with the suspension to commence midnight 6th April 2025 and to conclude midnight 15th April 2025. In assessing the matter, stewards considered the suspension jockey Silvera Olivera had incurred in the same race, and the overall principle of totality of suspension, therefore ordering 7 days of this suspension be served concurrently with the previous suspension issued. Jockey Silvera Olivera was advised of his rights to an appeal.

WHAT A SHOW – Trainer T Button was fined $100 under provisions of LR67(1) for the late rider declaration of apprentice L O’Donnell. Slow to begin.

ZELEZNY – Near the 950m, had to be checked by CAPRICORNUS which shifted inwards when insufficiently clear. Jockey R Silvera Olivera pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) in that near the 950m he allowed his mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of ZELENZY (jockey R Wiggins) which had to be to checked and be carried inwards, bumping with MISS ELOTAN (jockey W Satherley) which in turn was also carried inwards, tightening TILACCONI (jockey J Stanley), resulting in that runner losing ground. In determining penalty, stewards took into consideration the carelessness of the shift, the degree of interference suffered to multiple runners, guilty plea and previous record in relation to the careless riding template. Jockey Silvera Olivera’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 12 days, with the suspension to commence midnight 1st April 2025 and to conclude midnight 13th April 2025. Jockey Silvera Olivera was advised of his rights to an appeal. Bumped by RED BEAUTY which laid in near the 150m.

Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which revealed the filly to be lame in the right foreleg. Trainer’s representative was advised that TILACCONI would require a veterinary clearance prior to its next race start.

SPIRITED – After jockey A butler was indisposed, stewards heard submissions from trainer s Royes in relation to the declaration of apprentice L Martyn, stewards granted permission and approved the rider replacement. Heavily bumped with CAPRICORNUS shortly after the start.

RACE 5: BOOK FOR AMATEUR CUP SAT 24TH MAY RATINGS BAND 0 - 58 HANDICAP (1050 METRES)

Declaration of correct weight was delayed allowing stewards, apprentice L O’Donnell, trainer K Smyth and starter B Burnell to view the stewards patrol footage to ascertain if LAMENTUM was afforded a fair start. After hearing evidence from all parties, it was established that prior to jumping, LAMENTUM, after being loaded, had become fractious in the barriers. A barrier attendant was requested to assist with the horse, whilst the start was delayed due to another runner also being fractious. Just prior to the start being effected, LAMENTUM had dropped its head in the barriers and as the gates opened, the barrier attendant had let go of LAMENTUM simultaneously, before the gelding reared, causing apprentice O’Donnell to become unbalanced and losing significant ground on jumping. Subsequently, stewards were comfortably satisfied that LAMENTUM’s own mannerisms contributed to it missing the start, therefore ruling LAMENTUM a runner and declaring correct weight on the judge’s placings. Trainer K Smyth was advised that LAMENTUM would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to racing again. Trainer Smyth advised that he would intend to experience with gear changes such as removing the blinkers going forward.

FLYING MAPLE – Elected to shift wider from a point near the 500m. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.

ANSWERING – Raced wide in the early stages.

When asked for a comment on the performance, jockey/trainer T Chambers stated that the gelding had failed to handle the softer track conditions today. Stewards noted jockey/trainer Chambers’ comments.

MR GREY – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages.

Trainer Manzelmann further added that UPSTART LEGEND appreciated the softer conditions of the track in today’s event and was expecting the more forward showing. Stewards noted trainer Manzelmann’s comments.
