Rider reported that after his mount laid out rounding the turn then commenced to lay in on straightening. He added he became concerned with the action of ARCHERY BUTTS passing the 200m and as such eased his mount out of the race. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind leg and coughed on examination. When questioned in relation to the seemingly improved performance, trainer B Laming advised that in the geldings first start he was slow to begin and raced greenly throughout the event. Mr Laming added that the gelding had worked well subsequent to that run and that with the benefit of race experience, he had expected an improved performance and further was suited stepping up in distance in today’s event.

After racing wide in the early stages was allowed to stride and take up a forward position near the 1000m. When questioned regarding tactics adopted in todays event, Jockey Collett stated that after being slow to begin, her mount commenced to race ungenerously with the addition of blinkers and as such she allowed her mount to stride forward in an attempt to settle.
