When questioned regarding the performance of the gelding rdr stated that his mount travelled fairly in the early stages however dropped the bit passing the 1000m and he was required to continually encourage it along from this point. Rdr stated that his mount just ground its way to the line down the straight and felt reluctant to stretch out on the rain affected going. A post race veterinary examination of the gelding did not reveal any abnormality.

When asked to comment on the performance of the mare, apprentice C Collis advised that in his opinion, the slow early tempo was the major contributing factor in relation to the performance particularly when after being slow to begin, he was forced to obtain a trailing position in the event rather than being able to lead the event.

When quest re riding near 900m, in particular why when travelling comfortably outside the leader she elected to ride mount along to improve with, & hold a posn inside, a runner which improved around her mount in 3 wide posn rdr stated up to that point her mount had enjoyed moderate sectionals. Rdr stated when runner improved around her mount she was concerned it might be difficult to run down appreciating moderate early tempo & its light weigh impost. Rdr stated for this reason she elected to improve with it & dictate terms.

Jockey Robertson added that for this reason he eased the gelding down in the home straight. As a veterinary examination was not undertaken due to the vet attending to an injured horse, stewards will follow up with trainer B Mair in the day subsequent to today’s race in relation to the gelding’s post-race recovery.
