When questioned regarding tactics adopted rider K Cowan stated instructions were to attempt to lead however when runners improved to her inside approaching the 800 metres she was caught racing three wide without cover. Stewards, in assessing the ride of apprentice Cowan, advised in future she should show greater flexibility as the race unfolds, and not become too tied down to instructions and thus afford her mounts the best opportunity to finish their race off.

Tnr stated at most recent start geld settled well back & was bumped wide rounding h/turn in prov company. Tnr stated geld made good ground on winner down straight. Tnr stated start prior geld was beaten respectable margin in Metro company. Tnr advised stable did not support geld for fear of track bias however ride overcame such bias.

He added that, on return to scale, he had some concerns with mnt’s action. A post-race vet exam revealed speedy cuts to the near-foreleg. Tnr reported the mare will now be leaving his stable. Notwithstanding this advice, tnr was told a vet clearance is required before next race/trial.
