Sprie stated that after being crowded shortly after the start and settling in a rearward position, MIDNIGHT BOOM was not suited by the fast early pace of the race and in the middle stages was reluctant to apply pressure to the mare until leaving the 500m at which point MIDNIGHT BOOM responded well to his riding. Apprentice Sprie added that MIDNIGHT BOOM, in his opinion, is better suited in races over a longer distance than that of today.
