When qst, rdr std that with blinkers applied today he was instructed to ride mount in a prominent position if it began well, otherwise he was to position it where comfortable. He said the gelding turned its head as the start was effected and subsequently was slow to begin and therefore he decided to ride mount more conservatively towards the tail of the field. He added his mount did not travel comfortably at any stage and consequently did not let down in the heavy conditions which he attributed to its disappointing performance. A post-race vet exam revealed no abs.

J Murphy, rider of GO MILLO, was fined $400 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for use of the whip on six occasions prior to the 100m, one more than permitted. Rider J Murphy pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(b) failing to ride his mount out fully to the end of the race and had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period of 14 days to commence midnight 14th March up to and including 28th March 2022. In assessing this matter Stewards were comfortably satisfied that his actions had cost GO MILLO 3rd placing.
