Began awkwardly. Leaving the 900 metres crowded for room when TIACLAIR shifted in when not fully clear. S Galloway, rider of TIACLAR, was advised to exercise greater care when crossing. A short distance later had to be steadied when racing in restricted room to the inside of YUPPIE which shifted in momentarily. N Callow, rider of YUPPIE, was advised to exercise greater care. Rider W Peel stated instructions were to race on the speed, however after beginning awkwardly settled further than anticipated. Stewards noted the explanation.

When questioned regarding the gelding leading today, rider stated he was instructed to ride his mount in a forward position. He added after beginning well, he rode his mount along to comply with instructions and after no runners to his outside showed intent to lead the race, he maintained his position in the lead without pressuring his mount any further. Trainer confirmed the instructions and added he anticipated gelding racing behind the leaders.
