When qst re tempo set through early & mid stages, rdr std he anticipated leading, & after beginning only fairly he rode mnt along to try to obtain lead, but after the 1300m when another rnr had a margin on him, he endeavoured to ease to allow that rnr to cross & to obtain cover behind it. Std mnt commenced to race keenly & despite his efforts would not come back & consequently continued to overrace to the inside of leader. Added due to tempo set through early & mid stages, his mnt was left without a finishing effort & weakened in the straight. A post-race vet exam revealed no abnormalities.
