Jockey stated that after being pressured to improve rounding the home turn, his mount failed to quicken and was disappointing in the run to the line. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. The Stewards’ will follow up the post-race condition of the gelding in the days subsequent. Nothing reported in subsequent days.

A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be exhibiting clinical signs of cardiac arrhythmia. Trainer S Kendrick was advised that the gelding would require a veterinary certificate, inclusive with results of an ECG, and to officially trial prior to next racing.

When asked to comment on the apparent improved performance trainer L Birchley explained at its most recent start at Rockhampton on 23rd June 2023 BROCKY did not handle the firm racing surface and today, on the softer track and after being able to settle in a handy position from the good draw, he was not overly surprised by the forward performance. Stewards noted the expalnation.
