Jones stated that ICE IN VANCOUVER travelled well however did not respond as expected when placed under pressure in the home straight and may not have appreciated today’s track conditions. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be displaying clinical signs of the thumps.

When questioned regarding the gelding’s performance, jockey B. Thompson stated that the step up in grade and the race pressure mid race when THE MOVE improved to his outside which may have had an effect on its finishing effort. OSAMU underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed no significant abnormalities, however the gelding slipped over post race in the tie up stalls following the examination and pulled the left hind plate off, stepping on the toe clip, causing lameness. OSAMU was treated on course by the veterinary surgeon.
